Following a degree in Contemporary History at "La Sapienza" University of Rome and a Masters in History of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science Italian filmmaker Nicoletta Fagiolo went on to work for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) till 2003. In 2004 she shot her first film on the impact of microcredit in Bangladesh, Fighting Financial Apartheid. In 2009 she shot and directed the 52 minute film Résistants du 9ème Art (Rebels of the 9th Art), a documentary on African editorial cartooning and freedom of expression. Through this film Fagiolo developed a keen interest for non-violent resistance as a way of brining positive change: the heroes would go to prison for a simple drawing and the statement it made. Since 2011 she has developed a documentary project, Simone and Laurent Gbagbo, the right to difference on two contemporary Pan african leaders of non violent resistance. Fagiolo is also working on a film on Rastafarian historical resistance culture and food ways in the Caribbean. Fagiolo works for national and international TV channels writing and producing reportage and documentaries.

Après avoir obtenu un diplôme d’Histoire Contemporaine à l’Université "La Sapienza" de Rome  et un Master d’Histoire des Relations internationales à la London School of Economics and Political Science, la réalisatrice italienne Nicoletta Fagiolo a travaillé pour le Haut Commissariat des Nations unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) jusqu’en 2003.

En 2004 elle a tourné son premier film sur l’impact du microcrédit au Bangladesh, intitulé Fighting Financial Apartheid. En 2009 elle a tourné et réalisé le film de 52 minutes Résistants du 9ème Art (Rebels of the 9th Art), un documentaire sur la caricature éditoriale africaine et la liberté d’expression.

À travers ce film, Fagiolo a développé un vif intérêt pour la résistance non violente en tant que moyen de provoquer un changement positif: ces héros allaient en prison pour un simple dessin et le message qu'il portais.Depuis 2012, elle a entrepris la réalisation du documentaire Simone et Laurent Gbagbo, le droit à la différence sur sur deux leaders panafricains contemporains de la résistance non-violente.

Fagiolo travaille également sur un film sur la culture de résistance historique et les habitudes alimentaires des Rastafaris dans les Caraïbes. Elle travaille pour des chaînes de télévision nationales et internationales en écrivant et produisant des reportages et des documentaires.
